How to enable the telnet client in Windows Vista/7/8?

Telnet is a network protocol that is used to provide an interactive, text-based facility that uses a virtual terminal connection.

To enable the telnet client in Windows you need to:

  1. Open the start menu and click Control Panel.
  2. Click on Programs and Features (if you do not see it, you can type it in the search box there).
  3. On the left sidebar you will see Turn Windows features On or Off.
  4. Look for telnet client, put a tick on it and hit okay.
  5. Restart may be required.

Another option is to open your Start Menu -> Run -> CMD and type:

pkgmgr /iu:”TelnetClient”
