An FTP Client is a software that is designed to transfer files back-and-forth between two computers over the Internet. It needs to be installed on your computer and can only be used with a live connection to the Internet.
The classic FTP Client look is a two-panel design. The panel on the left displays the files on your computer and the panel on the right displays the files on the remote computer (or server).
File transfers are as easy as dragging-and-dropping files from one panel to the other or by highlighting a file and clicking one of the direction arrows located between the panels.
Some of the most popular FTP clients are:
- FileZilla
- CuteFTP
- WinSCP (for Windows only)
- Transmit (for Mac OS only)
- FireFTP (Firefox extension)
- Cyberduck
You can also use FTP through your browser. If you are a WebHostFace client and you want to connect to FTP, you can look at our articles here.
